Default Crash problems with HRD Satellite Tracking

I am using HRD v5.0 build 2893. When I open HRD Satellite Tracking a dialogue box tells me 'A crash has been detected by BugTrap'. (My computer did crash - the 'Blue Screen of Death' - but neither HRD nor HRD Satellite Tracking were running at the time). Clicking on the 'more' button tells me 'HRDSatTrack.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\Amateur Radio\HF Software Suite\HRDSats001.dll" at 001B:0034162E'. Closing the dialogue box automatically closes the Satellite Tracking program. I do not wish to completely un-install HRD for fear of losing all of my settings but I have run the HRD installation program again in the hope of repairing the fault, but without success. I have been into the program and deleted three files - 'HRDSats001.dll', 'HRDSats.dll' and 'HRDSatTrack.exe'. I have replaced these three files from a pre-crash backup of HRD program files, but again without success, so I restored the three deleted files. Any suggestions for curing the fault, please?

Sorry Mike, this posting won't help you fix your problem: I have to report that I have a similar issue.
I am running Win 7 Pro, service pack 1. HRD version 5.0 build 2893.

When I launch HRD it runs fine. When I launch 'Satellites', the program crashes saying ...
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library. Runtime Error. Program HRDSatTrack.exe. Abnormal program termination. [OK]"

I don't have any 'more' button visible, so can't get any further information. Clicking OK closes 'Satellites' but leaves HRD running.

First step: Uninstall HRD and re-install. Still suffering same problem.
Second step: Uninstall HRD, purge the registry of any references to "HRD" or "Simon Brown" left behind after the uninstall. Still suffering same problem.
Third step: Uninstall HRD, uninstall MS Visual C++, purge all references to HRD or Simon from the registry, reinstall. Still suffering same problem.

The fault first occurred when manually entering Keps for Arissat.

Can anyone offer me any suggestions on what to try next? Maybe the same fix will help both Mike and myself. Thanks!

Question Re: Crash problems with HRD Satellite Tracking

Have you tried deleting the ARISSat satellite? Or, deleting the keps file entirely, then redownloading a fresh set of Keps. Something in the keps file may have gotten hosed when you added the Arissat Sat.

I deleted all keps files on the PC. As 'Satellites' doesn't successfully start, I can't delete just the one.

To 8p6uk - I am sorry to hear of your problems - they seem worse than mine, hi! Thanks to W8BFG for his suggestion. I too cannot delete individual keps or download new ones as Satellite Tracker will not stay open when the error dialogue box is closed. I have just tried deleting both the Keps file and the Definitions file in their entirety but still get the same result outlined in my original post.

So ..... anyone, any further suggestions that may assist 8p6uk or me, please?

Hey let me know if you figure out anything on this. I'm having the same problem and I don't want to loose my settings in HRD.

    Thanks

    Problem solved!

This problem was caused by manually inputting Two Line Element, then the link is created in one hidden folder. no matter how you re-install the program, it is no use. unless you delete the folder completely.

    The simple solution :

To correct the error do the following:
    1. Double click on my My Computer so that a Windows Explorer Window opens.
    2. In the address location, at the top of the window, type in: %appdata%
    3. This will take you to the Application Data folder, which is normally hidden.
    4. Browse to: Simon Brown, HB9DRV / HRD Satellite Tracking (Meaning open the Simon Brown, HB9DRV folder and then open theHRD Satellite Tracking folder within it.
    5. open the SatTrackSatelliteDefinitions.xml file by Notepad
    6. the satellite you inputted should be at the bottom, suppose you still remember it. delete the whole paragraph and then save the file.
    7. BE CAREFUL! DO NOT DELETE OTHER CONTENT! EVEN A SINGLE ELEMENT!
    For example:
    <Definition Name="ITUPSAT1" Enabled="1" Special="0" Catalog="35935" Line1="1 35935U 09051E 12059.51544527 .00001956 00000-0 48744-3 0 8327
    " Line2="2 35935 98.3413 163.5294 0009965 86.7295 273.5014 14.52741784128928
    " Source="http://www.celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/amateur.txt" Date="2012-2-29 16:29:12" Names="ITUPSAT1" Sources="http://www.celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/amateur.txt"></Definition>

</HRD> be careful of this, keep it.

your program should be working now! Good luck

if you have any question, I will try my best
