    Default Deleted Countries

In the course of keeping my Countries file updated, I've noticed there are a fair number of Deleted Countries. Since most of the Deleted Countries have end dates prior to my first being licensed (July 1991), would it spoil some vast eternal plan if I deleted them from the Countries file? I expect I'd need to do this on each update, but not a big issue. The chances of my traveling back in time to make QSOs are very slim, indeed.

I hate dead code (which you could say is what Deleted countries are). Deleting the Deleted could make country lookups a tad more efficient. Maybe not much, but if you add some (efficiency) here, there, and yonder, that's a good thing. Just the (former, retired) programmer in me, I guess.

The deleted countries are not dead code, or more correctly Data, for any users that have worked those entities before but if you have nothing better to do then its up to you if you delete them.

One word of warning to anyone reading this thread:

If you delete entries in the county file of UCSDB you will get errors in the award tracking facility if those entries that you deleted are in your logbook, furthermore you would need to delete the entries every time you load a new countries file or UCSDB because Chuck and I will keep the deleted entities in this files for accuracy of the lookups

Just to add to G4POP's narrative.

Deleting them would cause your DXCC totals to not match your ARRL credit records.

The ARRL gives two totals, both which are published, DXCC Current Entities PLUS Deleted and Current DXCC Entities ONLY.

As an example: I have 343 Credited including Deleted Entities and 339 Current Entities or in ARRL terms 343/339

    DO NOT DO IT!
