    Hi All....
    23 April, 2012 -
Another update has been released for W4ELP's HamQTH Lookup program. The latest is now V1.3, 23 April, 2012.

Free download is available at www.k7pt.com. Updated manual also available for download at same site.

    HamQTHLookupV1.3 release notes:
    1. When lookup is missing grid square, it is calculated from station's listed lat/lon data.
    2. Warning message in event of calculated grid square
    3. Logging of LOTW and EQSL status improved - choice of location.
    4. Fixed various minor bugs and annoyances.
    5. Pray I didn't create too many new bugs

    73,
    Ed - W4ELP

Hey folks, I wanted to post an official statement about the use of this program.

We don't have any problem with folks using free lookup services. To the extent that we can support legitmate free services, we're absolutely open to that.

Because there is some suspecion about the ownership of the data that is being used at this particular site, we're not condoning its use and we don't support it. We're not going to discourage it either.

It's my hope that we will eventually be able to offer a free basic lookup service at some point. For now, we'll support those that can demonstrate that they are the sole owners of their data.

    Hi Mike-
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your concern and understand that you are sort of caught in the middle here.

When I first did the program I wasn't aware of the allegations about the data source. I'll admit I've had some mixed feelings. But for better or for worse, a lot of us feel we can't justify the cost of a QRZ XML subscription PLUS purchase HRD 6.0 and the maintenance costs. If I have to make a choice, I would prefer to support HRD and its development.

    Ed,

I'll publically state right here that - though I understand QRZ's reason for eliminating the free lookups - I don't agree with it. I've told them so. It's a matter that is obviously out-of-our-control. We are trying to use our influence - and that of the 100,000 HRD fans - to try to come up with a workable solution that is to the mutual benefit of HRD users and QRZ.

But yes - we appreciate your support. And thanks for your understanding.

My only comment will be that competition is the engine of free enterprise. It will in the end benefit all.

BTW: I'm a paid QRZ subscriber and also use Ed's great add-on program so don't have a dog in the fight.

Thanks to all for The great HRD program work.

Thanks also for the HamQTH program. Big thumbs up to everyone.

I have been adding all my logbook info by hand for a couple of months and what a pain.

I downloaded HamQTH V 1.31 today. After lots of trial and error It all seems to work well with HRD Logbook. BUT I only get a first name when adding a call to the logbook.

Did I miss something in the setup

    Thanks
    RON

In the logbook go to "logbook">"options">"callsign lookup"... u can choose either first name only or full name.
