    Default Shortwave Listeners

Perhaps just one tab somewhere that leads to a page oriented toward shortwave listening. I know, I know, I should get a license. I was a radio man in military in the 60s. I was a ditty chaser. In my civilian job I used a radio every day. But I just have no desire to transmit. But I love listening and chasing the number stations and utility stations as well as chasing ham DX. Most of the components are already there we just need a logbook page oriented toward our hobby in Ham Deluxe. There are lots of us shortwave listeners out here.

But I love this software regardless and thank you for it.

    Welcome to the Forums.

I guess you must have missed the fact that HRD already supports an SWL Database. You can access it from the HRD Rig Control program via clicking on either the SW DATA icon, or Tools > Shortwave Database.

Minor issue is that the SW database HRD uses is the ILG database, which is no longer available (the one currently included is VERY old). However, there are 3rd Party converter programs that can be used to convert other SW databases to ILG format. See the Threads at

    and

BTW, there's also an SWL Forum available at

No, actually I have tried to use that. I guess I need schooling on how to get the "button tabs" to bring up something when I click on them. They only blink. Or is the space below them empty because the data base is no longer there and they are just headings? Guess I should add a data base and see, huh? I have studied the manual but may have missed it. (EDIT-Yep D/Led a database and that helped. Now I know what that empty space is for. Thanks!)

I thought if I clicked on the SWL Report button on the log book page it would change the way the page entry looked leaning more toward SW without the RST sent and other info. not relating to receiving only. That is what I intended to relate in my OP but failed to do so. I guess I should just be happy that the program is here for me to enjoy and not ask for too much. And I really do enjoy using it.

I have checked out the SWL forum here but there is no activity (Not much anyway). Am I missing something there? Guess I should start a few threads.

Thanks in advance if you can school me on any of this.

The SWL portion of HRD has never been all that active, at least when compared to the Ham part. And as you've noted, not much activity in the SWL Forum either. As you said, you may want to start some Threads there.

I think the SWL part was an add-on that Simon, HB9DRV, HRD's original author, added at the request of some SWLer's, but it really didn't progress much beyond that, and very little in the HRD User Guide on it.

It is kind of funny... I use HRD all the time and love it, but the reason I first got it was because of the ILG SWL database. I thought it would be great to bring up a broadcaster, sort by station, and check propagation on all current frequencies by clicking on them one by one. Alas, the ILG database disappeared soon after I downloaded the program. I'll have to try the converter programs.
